Saint Jerome’s prayer to God for help against anger issues.
Anger in itself is not bad. As a matter of fact, anger is an emotion; One of the many emotions designed by God to enable man to act accordingly. Saint Thomas Aquinas says, “he who is not angry when there is just cause for anger is immoral. Why? Because anger looks to the good of Justice. And if you can leave amidst injustice without anger, you are immoral as well as unjust”. However, what we do as a result of anger determines whether it is good or bad.
So, in most cases we end up acting badly as a result of anger. When someone or something triggers anger in us, we are oftentimes made to react negatively, to lash out with full force and even say things we are not expected to. This is why it is advisable to just avoid getting angry by avoiding occasions that can cause such, “Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret–it leads only to evil” (Psalm 37:8).
If you often find yourself with anger issues or you find it hard to control your anger, you have enough no reason to seek the help of Saint Jerome who is the patron saint of people with anger issues. He himself had serious anger issues while he was on earth but by God’s grace, he was able to subdue his anger issue and leave a better life of service to God. Make this prayer today:
“O Lord, show Your mercy to me and gladden my heart. I am like the man on the way to Jericho who was overtaken by robbers, wounded and left for dead. O Good Samaritan, come to my aid. I am like the sheep that went astray. O Good Shepherd, seek me out and bring me home in accord with Your will. Let me dwell in Your house all the days of my life and praise You for ever and ever with those who are there. Amen”.
