Prayer to St. Jude Thaddeus for Help To Give Up Addictions

St. Peter says, “St. Peter says, “Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul” (1 Peter 2:11 )”. It is no crime to love something so much. It could be material things like your phone, your appearance, watching movies, football, drinks or even a person. Our emotions were designed by God for that. However, when we love a thing so much that we cannot do without it or can’t take a break from it then it becomes addiction or obsession.

The Oxford dictionary describes addiction as the condition of being unable to stop using or doing something as a habit, especially something harmful. Addiction is bad because it strips you of your natural will and makes you dependent on a particular thing for happiness so much so that you could even commit sins to get such object of addiction. A vast number of people are victims of drug addiction. This is so pitiful and is not God’s will for us. So if you find that you are a victim of addiction, it is an indication that prayers are needed.

Saint Jude Thaddeus is the patron saint of desperate cases hence people who happened to struggle with addictions are advised call on him to help them conquer them:

“God of life, You made me in Your perfect image, to live in Your love and to give You glory, honor and praise. Open my heart to Your healing power. Come, Lord Jesus, calm my soul just as you whispered “Peace” to the stormy sea.

St. Jude, most holy Apostle, in my need I reach out to you. I beg you to intercede for me that I may find strength to overcome my illness. Bless all those who struggle with addiction. Touch them, heal them, reassure them of the Father’s constant love.

Remain at my side, St. Jude, to chase away all evil temptations, fears, and doubts. May the quiet assurance of your loving presence illuminate the darkness in my heart and bring lasting peace.
Amen”.
