Prayers of the Cross

Prayers of the Cross – 1

O God, Who didst will to hallow the standard of the life-giving Cross by the Precious Blood of Thine only-begotten Son; grant, we beseech Thee, that they who rejoice in honouring the same holy Cross, may rejoice also in Thine ever-present protection. Through the same Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Prayers of the Cross – 2

Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen us to follow you not only to the Breaking of Bread but also to the drinking of the Cup of Your Passion. Help us to love You for Your own sake and not for the sake of comfort for ourselves. Make us worthy to suffer for Your name, Jesus, our Crucified and Risen Lord and Saviour, now and forever.
Amen.

Prayers of the Cross – 3

O good cross, made beautiful by the body of the Lord, long have I desired thee, ardently have I loved thee, unceasingly have I sought thee, and now thou art ready for my eager soul. Receive me from among men and restore me to my Master, so that He, who redeemed me through thee, shall receive me through thee.
Amen.

Prayers of the Cross – 4

My Lord Jesus Christ, Thou hast made this journey to die for me with love unutterable, and I have so many times unworthily abandoned Thee; but now I love Thee with my whole heart, and because I love Thee, I repent sincerely for having ever offended Thee. Pardon me, my God, and permit me to accompany Thee on this journey. Thou goest to die for love of me; I wish also, my beloved Redeemer, to die for love of Thee. My Jesus, I will live and die always united to Thee.
Amen.

Prayers of the Cross – 5

Behold, O Kind and most sweet Jesus, before Thy face I humbly kneel, and with the most fervent desire of soul, I pray and beseech Thee to impress upon my heart lively sentiments of faith, hope and charity, true contrition for my sins and a firm purpose of amendment. With deep affection and grief of soul, I ponder within myself, mentally contemplating Thy five wounds, having before my eyes the words which David the Prophet spoke concerning Thee: “They have pierced my hands and my feet, they have numbered all my bones.”

Prayers of the Cross – 6

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
I will go to the altar of God. To God who gives joy to my youth. Judge me, O God, and take up my cause against the nation that is not holy. Free me from the unjust and deceitful man. For You, O God, are my strength, why have You cast me off? And why do I walk in sorrow, while the enemy troubles me? Send forth Your light and Your truth, they have led me, and brought me to Your holy hill, and to Your dwelling. I will go to the altar of God, to God who gives joy to my youth. To You, O God, my God, I will give praise upon the harp, why are you sad, O my soul? And why do you trouble me? Hope in God, for I will still praise Him, the salvation of my countenance and my God.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen.

Prayers of the Cross – 7

I will go to the altar of God. To God who gives joy to my youth. Our help is in the name of the Lord. Who has made heaven and earth. May almighty God have mercy upon you, forgive you your sins, and bring you to life everlasting. I confess to almighty God, to blessed Mary, ever Virgin, to blessed Michael the Archangel, to blessed John the Baptist, to the holy apostles Peter and Paul, to all the saints, and to you, Father, that I have sinned exceedingly in thought, word, and deed; through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault. Therefore, I beg blessed Mary, ever Virgin, blessed Michael the Archangel, blessed John the Baptist, the holy apostles Peter and Paul, all the saints and you, Father, to pray to the Lord our God for me. May almighty God have mercy upon you, and forgive you your sins, and bring you to life everlasting. May the almighty and merciful Lord grant us pardon, absolution, and remission of our sins. You will turn again, O God, and quicken us. And Your people shall rejoice in You. Show unto us, O Lord, Your mercy. And grant us Your salvation. O Lord, hear my prayer. And let my cry reach up to You.
The Lord be with you. And with your spirit.
Take from us our sins, O Lord, that we may enter with pure minds into the holy of holies. Through Christ our Lord. We beg You, O Lord, by the merits of Your saints, that You would be so kind as to forgive me all my sins.
Amen.
