Jesus Christ with Black Lamb paintings by Nathan Greene.
Nathan Greene writes: Years ago I was sharing with my agent that while I am always grateful for the commissions I receive there were some paintings I personally wanted to do. He questioned what they would be and from that conversation the Black Lamb Series was created.
Interestingly enough, my wife Patty, was raised on a Suffolk sheep farm. This breed is born as black wooly lambs that develop oatmeal-colored wool as they mature but their heads and legs remain black. It seemed natural to use those adorable black lambs in my paintings instead of the traditional white lamb. I cannot help but believe that this wasn’t a coincidence but God’s involvement in art directing. The responses I have received from people who have seen “The Rescue”, “The Lamb of God”, “The Good Shepherd” and “The Gentle Shepherd” have been stories out of the depths of their hearts and souls. Stories of being that “black sheep” and of being lost in sin and sadness. Stories of how God saw their value, rescued them and gave them new life.
